Paying an Egyptian supplier safely

Letter of credit, deposit or open account: what to use and when

Bridge for Services never holds your money: you pay the supplier directly. That keeps deals free of commission, but it means you choose how to protect the payment. Here is what our team recommends.

First order: letter of credit

An irrevocable letter of credit at sight means your bank pays only when the supplier presents the shipping documents you listed: bill of lading, invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and any inspection report. It costs a bank fee, but it protects both sides.

Second order: deposit and balance against documents

Once you know the supplier, 30% deposit and 70% against a copy of the bill of lading is the most common Egyptian practice. Add a pre-shipment inspection for new products.

Regular partners: open account

After several clean shipments, many buyers move to payment 30 to 60 days after the bill of lading.

Three rules for every order

Confirm bank details by phone before the first transfer. Write the incoterm, port and quality specification in the proforma. Keep the whole conversation on the platform, so our team can help if you need us.
